Here it goes... the first post. I've been wanting to start a blog for quite some time, but insecurities kept holding me back. Things like, "What if people don't read it?" or "Why would people want to hear what I have to say?" plagued my thoughts. But the biggest one was "I don't have that one thing I'm an expert at". That one thing that I can base my blog around.
So I called my sister.
"Am I crazy? Would anyone even read this?" I asked. "I'm just passionate about so many things, but I'm not really a GURU of any one thing, you know?"
"I think that's your thing" she said.
And I realized, maybe she's right. I've spent my whole life dabbling - I guess that's just who I am as a person. Instead of focusing my efforts on one extra curricular activiy in school, I dabbled in all of them: art, music, dance, every kind of sport you could imagine... I did it all. I never had just one group of close friends, always several groups that I floated between. I spent many years thinking that I should have just picked one: one sport, one art form, one best friend, one thing to become an expert at. A guru, if you will. But looking back, I think all that dabbling made me a more interesting person. It opened my mind to all the wonderful things life has to offer. It's allowed me to have so many wonderful experiences, make so many interesting friends from different walks of life, and most of all, become passionate about a myriad of topics.
So here I am, sharing it all with you. I hope to use this as a platform to share the things I love, and take you on this journey with me. And I hope you have as much fun as I do in the process.
Love,
Rachel
P.S. I shared a comic on my Instagram (@guruofnothingblog) today by the hilarious and talented Nick Seluk of The Awkward Yeti (@theawkwardyeti). If you'd like to grab a copy of his 2018 calendar, you can do so here!
